Background and Motivation

Waso Resource Development Agency (WARDA) is a Registered Non-Governmental organization (NGO) with the board of NGOs in Kenya. It began as a small community based non for-profit organization (CBO) in 2001 and currently it is both humanitarian and developmental Organization. Its robust networks, strong links in the community and an enviable track record has seen it thrive and grow at a faster rate. Over the years, the organization has developed strong links with local administration, communities, the private sector and development agencies and has aligned programs alongside the national priorities. Since its inception WARDA has been instrumental in providing support to the needy in North Eastern part of Kenya particularly in Wajir, Mandera and Garissa counties. WARDA has maintained close working relation with both national and county governments in particular with the department of health. WARDA actively participates in county level coordination meeting e.g. the county steering group meeting and the county emergency. The organization has staff capacity of 57 (43 male and 14 female) with experience in wide range of technical expertise. The organization has a well spread program coverage and in the sectors of Health, Nutrition, Education, Food security & livelihoods and protection. WARDA’s humanitarian and development programs are designed to complement each other which fosters effective programming to achieve significant impact on our emergency and development programs.

WARDA in its humanitarian and developmental intervention is currently implementing programs funded by different donors in the Counties of Garissa, Wajir and Mandera. The Organization a strong partnership with both the National and the respective county governments of Garissa, Wajir and Mandera). The donors include World Bank, Global Aid, the Horn of African Relief Development Agency (HARDA) and Muslim Aid Australia.

To work in partnership with stakeholders and communities especially women and children in Nothern Kenya to achieve self-sustaining social- economic development.
